How did you get into writing your own music, and how hard was it to get the chance to actually perform it live?

I had already been writing with my best friend Nina for The Moaning Myrtles when I started writing my own music. We were a few hours apart in college so whenever I got in the mood to write something when she wasn't nearby, I started working on my own songs. It's not really hard to book your own shows, it just depends what kind of spaces are willing to book you in your area or how willing you are to travel. Waiting for a chance to play is probably a little harder than going out and making it happen yourself, since it's more likely to happen if you take an active role in planning the shows than if you wait for someone to realize you want to play and invite you.
